Power Options

The VIoT Gateway is a mains-powered device, drawing up to 36W through a DC 12V, 3 Amp adapter — a higher power draw than the individual VIoT Nodes, which makes sense given the Gateway is continuously transmitting, receiving, and running its own backhaul radio (Wi-Fi or 4G) rather than periodically sampling a single sensor.

Unlike the VIoT Nodes, the Gateway includes a built-in battery backup rated for up to 6 hours of continued operation after mains power is lost. This is an important reliability feature for industrial and remote sites, where a power interruption — whether from a grid outage, a tripped breaker, or planned maintenance — would otherwise create a gap in the data record for every node reporting through that gateway. Six hours of backup is generally enough to ride out a typical short outage, though sites with longer or more frequent outages should plan for a supplementary power source (such as a UPS or solar-battery system feeding the 12V input) rather than relying on the internal backup alone.
