Mounting
Physical dimensions and how to mount the Gateway on site.
The Gateway can be installed in one of two ways: wall-mounted or pole-mounted. In the wall-mounted method, the Gateway module itself is placed at a convenient location — such as near a power source or where Wi-Fi/internet connectivity is available — while its antennas are run out to a dedicated pole, positioned for optimal coverage, typically at a high point with a tilt directed toward the sensors or devices. In the pole-mounted method, the entire Gateway unit (with both antennas attached directly to it) is mounted on the pole itself.
Wall-Mounted
The Gateway body is fixed to a wall near a power source. Separate Wi-Fi and LoRa antenna cables run from the Gateway up to a nearby pole, where the antennas are mounted for the best possible height and line of sight — this separates the constraint of "near power/Wi-Fi" from the constraint of "high and clear for radio coverage," letting you optimize each independently.
Pole-Mounted
The Gateway body and both antennas (Wi-Fi and LoRa) are mounted together on a single pole. Simpler to install in one spot, at the cost of the antenna height being fixed to wherever the Gateway body itself can be reasonably mounted.
Power Supply Placement — Confirmed Requirement
The unit ships with an external power supply that converts 110–230V AC to 12V DC, and requires a standard 6A socket. The maximum allowable distance between the Gateway unit and the power socket is 1 metre — this is a hard constraint from the manual, not a general guideline, so confirm a suitable power source is within 1 metre of the planned mounting location before installing.
General Placement Guidelines
- Mount as high as practical, with a clear line of sight toward the area where nodes are (or will be) deployed — height and clear sightlines matter more for range than almost any other single factor
- Keep antennas vertical and unobstructed; avoid mounting directly against large metal surfaces, which can shield or reflect the LoRa signal
- If using 4G SIM backhaul, confirm cellular signal strength at the mounting location before permanent installation
- If using Wi-Fi backhaul, mount within reliable range of the access point, accounting for any walls or metal structures in between
- Leave clear access to the power input and antenna connectors for future maintenance
- For pole or elevated mounting, follow standard local guidance for securing outdoor electronics against wind load
