Getting Started

Setting up a VIoT Gateway involves two separate connections that are easy to conflate but serve different purposes: the backhaul connection (Wi-Fi or 4G SIM) that gets the Gateway itself onto the internet, and the LoRaWAN radio that lets it hear nearby VIoT Nodes. Both need to be working before the Gateway is useful — a Gateway with a working internet connection but no registered nodes won't show any sensor data, and a Gateway hearing nodes but with no backhaul can't forward anything anywhere.

1. 1Mount the Gateway with a clear view of the area where nodes will be deployed, and connect the external antenna
2. 2Power the Gateway from the supplied DC 12V, 3A adapter
3. 3Configure backhaul — connect to Wi-Fi, or insert and activate a 4G SIM
4. 4Register the Gateway on the ChirpStack network server (self-hosted or Vandyam-managed, per deployment type)
5. 5Confirm the Gateway shows as connected on the network server / Cloud Dashboard
6. 6Power on and join VIoT Nodes in range, and confirm their data is arriving through this Gateway
