What the 4-20mA Node is and how it brings current-loop instruments onto LoRaWAN.

The Vandyam Industrial 4-20mA Node is a rugged analog-to-LoRaWAN interface built to bring current-loop instrumentation onto long-range wireless networks. The 4-20mA current loop remains one of the most widely used signaling standards in industrial measurement — it is the default output on countless pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters, flow meters, level sensors, and other process instruments precisely because current signals resist the electrical noise and voltage drop that plague long analog wiring runs. The 4-20mA Node lets automation teams keep using that proven analog infrastructure while gaining the reach and flexibility of a wireless LoRaWAN deployment, without having to replace existing 4-20mA sensors or run new signal cable back to a control room.

As a plug-and-play analog device, the node reads a standard 4-20mA current-loop input and converts it into wireless LoRaWAN data packets for remote monitoring. It is built for direct installation in the field — mounted near the instrument it is reading, wired to the 4-20mA loop, and powered from a 12V DC supply — with no local configuration console or on-site programming step required to get it operating.

Designed for outdoor and industrial deployment, the 4-20mA Node uses industrial-grade components to remain reliable in electrically noisy environments — a natural strength of current-loop signaling that the node's design is built to preserve end-to-end. On the radio side, it transmits on the 865 MHz LoRaWAN band, giving it the same long-range, low-power wireless characteristics as the rest of the Vandyam VIoT product family, and allowing it to report back to a Vandyam VIoT Gateway from distances that would be impractical to wire directly.
