External 12V DC power and protection ratings.
Like the rest of the VIoT Node family, the 4-20mA Node is an externally powered device rather than a battery-operated one, running from a 12V DC supply. This matches the voltage commonly available in industrial panels and junction boxes alongside the 4-20mA loop itself, so in most installations the node can be powered from the same cabinet as the transmitter it is reading, without needing a separate power drop.
The input is rated to tolerate up to 35V DC before over-voltage protection engages, giving a healthy margin above the nominal 12V rating to absorb wiring mistakes or minor supply fluctuations on site. Separately, the 4-20mA loop protection itself is specified up to 25V DC, with TVS/ESD protection guarding against transient spikes and static discharge — worth noting as a distinct figure from the 35V power-input protection, since the two protect different parts of the circuit (the power rail versus the signal loop).
As with the RS-485 Node, there is currently no battery-powered variant of the 4-20mA Node. For installations without accessible mains or panel power, a separate 12V DC source — such as a solar-and-battery supply — would need to be provided.
