Installation and remote, cloud-based configuration workflow.
Vandyam's approach to device configuration is one of the RS-485 Node's genuine differentiators. Many RS485-to-LoRaWAN dataloggers on the market are configured locally, on-site, using a companion smartphone app connected over Bluetooth — which means someone has to physically be at the device with a phone in hand to set it up or make changes later. The VIoT RS-485 Node instead uses a fully remote, cloud-based configuration model: once the node is powered and has joined a Vandyam VIoT Gateway over LoRaWAN, all of its operating parameters can be set, reviewed, and changed from the Vandyam Cloud Dashboard, without anyone needing to touch the device again.
Data & configuration path
Sensor → VIoT Node → VIoT Gateway → Cloud Dashboard → Alerts. Sensor data flows up this chain; configuration commands flow the other way, pushed to the node over MQTT via the gateway.
- 1Mount the node and wire it to the RS485/Modbus device(s) and 12V DC power
- 2Power on the node — it automatically attempts to join the nearest Vandyam VIoT Gateway over LoRaWAN
- 3Confirm on the Cloud Dashboard that the node has joined the network and is visible
- 4Add the node's connected Modbus slave devices on the dashboard
- 5Push the configuration — slave IDs, register maps, polling intervals — to the node over MQTT
- 6Verify live sensor data is arriving on the dashboard before leaving site
